Student Chapters
Student Chapters are student groups based at educational institutions that play a vital role in fostering future leaders in physics in the country and in promoting science within their communities through outreach activities, training, and research and/or extension programs. Through their participation in a Student Chapter, students have the opportunity to learn about research conducted at various universities across the country, strengthen their leadership and communication skills, and build national networks for their professional advancement.
Create a student chapter for your institution!
-
To have a Student Chapter, your educational institution must have an undergraduate program in physics, a bachelor's degree in physics, physics engineering, or another physics-related field.
-
Each educational institution, per city, cannot have more than one student chapter of the association.
-
To create a Student Chapter, a minimum of fifteen (15) students from the institution who are Student Associates and one full-time or exclusive-dedication university professor from the educational institution who is a Full or Honorary Associate are required. This professor will serve as an advisor and liaison between the chapter and the university.
-
To create a student chapter, an application must be submitted to the Board of Directors indicating the chapter's name, the advisor's name, and the members' names; a chapter email address must be created; and a letter from the university indicating the type of support it would provide to the student chapter, if approved, must be sent.
Advantages of creating a student chapter
-
For every ten (10) student memberships paid for by the chapter, the Association will provide five (5) additional memberships free of charge.
-
Members of student chapters will receive special discounts to participate in Association events.
-
Chapters may request at least one visiting lecturer from the Association each year to deliver a virtual or in-person lecture, conduct workshops, or participate in other academic activities.
-
If members of a student chapter wish to apply for funding for their annual activities, they must submit their application by December 1st of each year.
